HOW DO I KNOW I HAVE THE RIGHT SIZE BABY SLING? Parents can generally wear more than one size baby sling. You can wear the baby sling low down near your hips, or high up on your chest. It must be sized so that getting the baby sling on and off is easy and getting the baby in and out is not a struggle. If it is, it's too small. If your legs knock the baby when you walk, it's too big. Everyone is different but many find a "perfect fit" is when the baby is worn above the waist. Smaller carriers are sometimes preferred for babies under 15 lbs. Having your baby sling properly sized will ensure that the weight of the baby is properly distributed over your back and shoulders. If you think you need a different size please see our exchange policy. IS MY BABY SAFE IN THE SLING? Safety is the most important feature of this specially designed baby sling. There is a curve sewn into the sling which will keep the sides up on either side of your baby. The Little Star Baby Sling properly supports the developing curves of the young spine and safely contains your baby. I HAVE BACK AND NECK STRAIN. Make sure you have a properly sized baby sling. Usually your back will be happier if your baby rides well above your waist. Wearing your baby too low can give you a sore back. Be sure to adjust the fabric so that it fans right across your back in a broad strip. MY BABY SEEMS ALL ROLLED UP AND/OR TOO FAR DOWN IN THE BABY SLING. This may or may not be a problem depending on how your baby feels about being down in the fabric. Remember, being rolled up is a very natural position for a newborn. Fussy or colicky babies are often comforted by curling up in a ball and drawing their legs up to their abdomens. If you would like your baby to see out better here are some things you can do: * Place your baby in the sling facing the opposite direction. This way your baby's face will not be covered by the fabric which goes over your shoulder. * Pull up on the fabric on the inside of the baby sling (next to your body) to allow your baby to see out better. * Put a blanket or towel under your baby so that he or she rides up higher. * Some parents may prefer a baby sling one size smaller while their baby is under 15lbs. You can purchase a separate baby sling or call/email us for instructions on how to easily sew in a temporary seam to make your baby sling one size smaller. HOW DO I NURSE MY BABY IN THE BABY SLING? Convenient and private breastfeeding is so easy while wearing your baby sling. The cradle carry is the position used most often for a baby of any age. The baby sling itself will not hold your baby tightly enough to maintain a "latch" at the breast. You can support your baby's back and head with your arm along the outside of the baby sling. To nurse, position your baby on her side so that she is facing the breast without turning her head. Slip your other hand inside the baby sling to present the breast. To nurse the other side you can either shift the baby sling over and use the "football hold" or reverse the baby sling. Pull up extra fabric from the outside so that your front is covered and you can nurse with privacy (see the drawing on the first page of this booklet). The Cuddle Carry is an ideal position for burping. MY BABY FALLS ASLEEP IN THE BABY SLING. Babies are very often lulled to sleep in the comfort of the baby sling. When your baby is in a state of deep sleep which you can recognize by his open hands and completely relaxed limbs, simply lean over the bed while supporting his head and gently slip yourself out of the baby sling. Take a break! HOW DO I WASH MY BABY SLING? Machine wash light coloured baby slings in warm water. Do not use bleach. Wash dark coloured baby slings alone for the first washing. Wash separately from light colours after this. Hang to dry, then fluff in the dryer or tumble dry on medium setting and remove promptly when finished. THE LITTLE STAR BABY SLING HAS BEEN SIZED FOR FIT AFTER IT HAS BEEN WASHED AND DRIED! WHAT IS INSIDE THE LINEN SACHET? The sachet is filled with wild-harvested lavender petals. For centuries lavender has been recognized for it's aromatheraputic properties. renowned for it's calming and balancing effects as well as it's beautiful scent. You can keep it inside your baby's drawer. WHAT IS THE COTTON CORD FOR? Little Star Baby Slings has sewn a cotton cord into the baby sling so you can conveniently hang up your sling when not in use. Some people use it to hook toys or other items onto the baby sling. WHERE CAN IF FIND A STORE THAT SELLS THE LITTLE STAR BABY SLING? We’re still putting together our interactive store database.
